Music directors and favorite guest artists of The Shedd Institute’s various jazz projects for almost 20 years—including our flagship songbook/jazz extravaganza Oregon Festival of American Music and the Jazz Party at The Shedd—pianist/composer Dick Hyman and clarinetist Ken Peplowski have made a lot of awesome music together here in Eugene, and regularly meet up at jazz parties, festival and recording gigs through the world and their busy schedules. But although they’ve created several memorable duo evenings of extraordinary music here at The Shedd over the years, they seldom do duo work together elsewhere, and have never made a duo recording until a few months ago, when they laid down E Pluribus Duo, an effort the usually reserved Dick states is “darn good.” To open up this year’s Jazz Party at The Shedd, our two favorite jazzmen show up to serve up that project and more in a most special evening.
