Carl Woideck is a saxophonist, author and jazz educator. He began playing sax during high school in the Cleveland area. In the 1960s-'70s he lived in Berkeley, performing with modern rock groups including members of the Jefferson Airplane and Grateful Dead, and has sat in with many other musicians including Bonnie Raitt and Robert Junior Lockwood. Woideck teaches jazz, blues, and rock music history at UofO School of Music and hosts The Soul of Jazz on KLCC-fm. He writes CD liner notes for Verve, Blue Note, Mosaic, and Prestige labels, and is the author of Charlie Parker: His Music and Life (U. of Michigan Press).
