Benny Golson? Who? Just one of the most prolific composers of jazz. If you’ve heard the songs “Along Came Betty,” “Blues March,” “I Remember Clifford,” “Stablemates” or “Whisper Not,” you’ve heard the music of Benny Golson. If you remember the 2004 Tom Hanks movie The Terminal, you’ve SEEN Benny Golson. And Benny, whose 90th birthday is January 25th, 2019, is still composing and performing as a bandleader. Golson’s highly literate autobiography, Whisper Not, was published in 2016.
Carl Woideck’s quintet (Paul Krueger (trumpet), Torrey Newhart (piano), Sean Peterson (bass), and Ken Mastrogiovanni (drum set) will perform a wide-ranging set of Benny Golson classics from dating from 1955 to the 21st century. If you like swinging, emotional jazz, this concert is for you.
